Jeffrey Snavely

Jeff Snavely retired from a 20-year Washington, D.C. military band career in 2015. He spent 7 years in the Air Force band and 13 years in the Navy band, performing in both bands on clarinet, bass clarinet and saxophones. His first teacher was his father Jack Snavely, the clarinet and saxophone professor for 39 years at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Jeff’s musical family also includes his mother (elementary music teacher, pianist), brother (middle-school band director) and his wife Melissa, an elementary school music teacher who also plays clarinet in the VGMB.

Jeff has also been the principal clarinet with the Arlington Philharmonic (formerly the Arlington Symphony) since 1997.

He is currently finishing an MLIS degree (Master’s in Library and Information Science) to become an elementary school librarian in Fairfax county.
