James Seidel


Jim has been a life-long musical advocate in Berks County. A 1969 graduate of Exeter Township High School, he received a B. S. degree in Music Education from Mansfield University and a Master of Music degree in trumpet performance from West Chester University, studying under Dr. Ken Laudermilch. He has done additional study in conducting with Timothy Foley, former director of the United States Marine Band.

Mr. Seidel has recently retired after 37 years as the instrumental director and department chair of Music in the Exeter Township School District. Jim is currently the musical director of the historic Ringgold Band, a position he has held since 1980, making his the longest tenure in the 159-year history of the band. In addition he is Director of Instrumental Music at Alvernia University, on the summer music faculty of Allegheny College, and a member of the Allegheny Brass Quintet. He also is Special Guest Conductor and a member of the trumpet section of the Virginia Grand Military Band of Alexandria, Virginia. Mr. Seidel is a member of the international band fraternity Phi Beta Mu and a member of PMEA. He has served as a guest conductor and adjudicator for numerous music festivals in the tri- state area.

Seidel resides in Exeter Township with his wife Wendy, their dog Mozart, and their pair of twin cats JP (John Philip) and Sousa, and George and Ira (Gershwin). They also totally enjoy a visit from any of their five children and three grandchildren who are in the area at any given time.
